Daewoo is Alpha's automatic choice

Alpha Flight Services, the UK’s largest airline caterer, has taken delivery of the first of nine Daewoo D75 left hand drive chassis cabs with automatic gearboxes. These vehicles are being supplied  through Saxon Special Vehicles, the Sandbach based fire tender and special vehicle builder, who has converted the Daewoo trucks to half cab style, with an extended crew pod. Saxon have also fitted refrigerated catering bodies with a hydraulic scissor lift to provide the necessary aircraft access.  Local Daewoo Avia dealer Beech’s Garage, Stoke on Trent, coordinated the sale.

These nine vehicles are the first Daewoo Avia D-Line trucks to be fitted with the new Allison LCT2000 automatic box.  Authorised Allison distributor Mitchell Diesel carried out the installation.  The LCT2000 has 5 forward gears, with lock-up in each gear, giving potential fuel savings over other automatic boxes. The LCT2000 also has an SAE data interface with the Daewoo’s Cummins ISBe engine to optimise the selection of the correct gear in all circumstances – for instance automatically changing down if necessary when the exhaust brake is applied.

Painted in Alphas eye-catching pink livery, these nine trucks will be positioned at Alpha’s  airside catering operations throughout the UK. Alpha Flight Services provide over 50 million aircraft meals each year worldwide to over 100 airlines.
